Democracy is struggling, in part because human politicians are an outdated technology—no one human can sufficiently model nor represent the complexity of the preferences of their constituents. Could we save it by supplementing politicians with digitized databases?
My guest today think so. Jamie Joyce is the founder of the Society Library, a non-profit attempting to archive and condense all of humanity’s key ideas, ideologies, and world-views into easily navigable maps so that key decision-makers can come to more informed conclusions, especially on important topics like nuclear power and AI.
So if sensemaking is your thing, I highly recommend this conversation. We get into everything from navigating AI slop, to (the surprising value of) Alex Jones-type conspiracies, and what happens when you treat information not as content to consume, but as infrastructure to build. A bibliophiles dream! Also Jamie has a crazy origin story you must hear, so don’t miss that bit.
Pls enjoy, and lmk your thoughts in the comments!
